Angus Glens, Scotland — Amid a growing demand for versatile, large-capacity event venues, Glen Clova Estate has unveiled a major expansion with the opening of The Barn, a purpose-built 400-square-metre event space set against the dramatic backdrop of the Angus Glens in the Cairngorms National Park.
Designed to accommodate weddings, corporate functions, and community gatherings, The Barn enhances the estate’s 4-star hospitality offering and reflects Glen Clova’s enduring commitment to sustainable rural development.
A Vision Rooted in Sustainability and Community
Construction on the facility began in January 2025, backed by significant private investment from Glen Clova Estate. True to its environmental ethos, the project prioritized locally sourced materials and engaged skilled tradespeople from the surrounding region. The resulting structure features a 5.6-metre vaulted ceiling, more than 1,000 hand-installed timber planks, and 500 repurposed scaffolding boards—a testament to both craftsmanship and eco-conscious design.
Powered by a hydroelectric system drawing water from Loch Brandy—infrastructure that has been in operation since 2012—the venue aligns with the estate’s long-standing sustainability strategy.
Expanding Capacity and Versatility
The Barn increases Glen Clova’s guest capacity by 70, enabling the estate to host events for up to 170 people. Its adaptable layout allows for seamless transitions between weddings, retreats, product launches, and more, making it one of the few venues in the region offering both large-scale hosting capabilities and comprehensive on-site accommodation.
“We’ve seen a steady increase in enquiries for larger weddings and corporate events,” said Lesley McArthur, partner at Glen Clova Estate. “It became clear there was a need for a more flexible space—one that still reflects the warmth, quality, and character Glen Clova is known for. The Barn is a thoughtful next step in our journey.”
With a dedicated team of 20, Glen Clova Estate is positioning The Barn not only as a unique venue but also as a catalyst for rural enterprise in the Angus region.
Strong Financial Stewardship
The project was completed with financial oversight from EQ Accountants, long-standing advisers to Glen Clova Estate.

A Destination Rooted in Heritage
Located just 30 minutes from Forfar, Glen Clova Estate is steeped in history and ecological significance. The estate includes a country hotel originally built in 1850, luxury self-catering lodges, and a range of hospitality venues. Guests enjoy access to a full suite of outdoor pursuits, including fishing, hiking, golf, cycling, and clay pigeon shooting.
