Wedding Scammer Targets Lake Conroe Venue, Prompting Investigation

by Evelyn

Authorities in Montgomery County, Texas, are investigating a wedding scam involving a now-closed venue on Lake Conroe called Charleston Lane. An individual using the alias Lance Miller posed as the owner of the venue and is accused of soliciting large payments from multiple individuals to reserve the location for events. Victims paid through various methods, including cash and wire transfers, only to later discover that the venue was permanently closed.

The venue, previously advertised as a luxury space accommodating up to 350 guests, ceased operations, with its last social media post dated February 3, 2025.

One victim, bride Cyndi Ou, reported losing her dream wedding plans just days before the ceremony, despite 20 months of preparation. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is urging others affected by this fraudulent scheme to come forward as their investigation into theft by deception continues.
