In an unforgettable moment at Bridal Week, Tanner Fletcher took fashion to a whole new level with a real wedding on the runway. Following the final walk of their debut bridal show, models Michael and Parker paused in front of an officiant, and a live wedding ceremony began, much to the surprise of the audience.
The couple, dressed in the brand’s signature designs, exchanged vows in front of the guests, many of whom were visibly moved by the heartfelt moment. “Oohs,” “aahs,” and sniffles swept through the crowd, making the “Tanner Fletcher’s Wedding Made Me Cry”-branded tissues handed out at the door seem particularly fitting.
The event was staged in the stunning St. Paul’s German Evangelical Church in Chelsea, New York City, with the original stained glass and vaulted wooden ceilings providing a breathtaking backdrop. One guest jokingly wondered how a church was booked for a fashion show, to which the answer became clear—getting married there does the trick.
The live wedding ceremony wasn’t the only surprise of the evening. A live choir performed a rendition of “Going to the Chapel,” adding an emotional touch to the already remarkable show. The community vibe was also evident, as several real-life couples participated in the runway walk, and model Faith Vaughn, known for her role in Severance, made a striking appearance.
The collection itself provided a refreshing departure from traditional bridal fashion. Tanner Fletcher, designed by CFDA talents Tanner Richie and Fletcher Kasell, showcased a genderless and versatile line that allowed every piece to be mixed and matched. The designs were marked by fluidity and elegance, with no gown feeling too restrictive. Bohemian and Victorian-inspired brides glided down the aisle in silky, flowing dresses, while the suits stole the show, especially one ensemble crafted entirely of sequin toile, which left the audience gasping.
In addition to the beautiful and innovative designs, the collection also embraced playful elements. A “Hitched” T-shirt paired with high-waisted acid wash jeans and an untucked tuxedo over white boxer shorts added a fun twist to the proceedings, reminding us that weddings don’t always have to be serious affairs.
Tanner Fletcher’s runway wedding wasn’t the first surprise nuptial of the year. Back in January, Jordan Bowen and Luca Marchetto of JordanLuca shocked Milan Men’s Fashion Week attendees with their own runway wedding. With two weddings on the runway in 2023, it’s safe to say that fashion is embracing romance in a whole new way. Who knows what other designers will surprise us with next?
