BEND, Ore. — Skyliner Lodge, a beloved community venue that has hosted countless weddings, family reunions, and other events since its establishment in 1937, will remain open after an organization stepped forward to take over its management.
Nature Connect Central Oregon, previously known as Central Oregon’s Children’s Forest, will assume operational and financial responsibility for the lodge, ensuring its continued use for community events.
“The future of Skyliner Lodge was uncertain for a few months,” said Katie Chipko, Executive Director of Nature Connect Central Oregon. “High Desert Education Service District (HDESD) had been leasing the facility for over a decade, but they decided not to renew the lease and return management to the U.S. Forest Service when it expires on June 30.”
This decision initially led to cancellations of upcoming events, including weddings, reunions, and meetings, disrupting many plans for the summer. The lodge, which has become a treasured community hub, was facing permanent closure.
“This place has been incredibly important to the community. We just couldn’t let it close,” Chipko explained. “Our organization couldn’t imagine it sitting idle, especially when it’s been such a valuable resource for educational and social use.”
As the new operators of Skyliner Lodge, Nature Connect Central Oregon is offering a unique opportunity for those still looking for a last-minute venue. The organization is extending a 30% discount on private rentals for events booked between July 1 and September 30, 2025.
“The summer calendar is wide open, so we’re inviting couples, families, and groups who need a venue to come and take advantage of this beautiful space,” Chipko said. “Though we reached out to those whose events were canceled and offered them the chance to rebook, most have already found alternative venues.”
Skyliner Lodge is known for its stunning natural setting and is typically booked up to 18 months in advance. Now, with its operations secured, it is available for reservations starting after June 30.
This news comes as a relief to many who had hoped to celebrate special occasions at the historic venue, and Nature Connect is eager to continue offering a space that connects people with nature and each other.
