BENGALURU: In a shocking incident, gold, cash, and other valuables worth approximately ₹25 lakh were reported stolen from a bride’s room at a wedding hall in Rajajinagar Industrial Town, under the jurisdiction of Magadi Road police station.
The theft reportedly took place on Friday during the wedding ceremony. According to police sources, the accused is suspected to have used a duplicate key to access the locked room, raising suspicions of an inside job. Unlike standard practice where guests are advised to use their own locks, the wedding hall in question is said to have provided locks for the rooms, a factor now under scrutiny by investigators.
The incident came to light after the bride returned to her room post-lunch, following the muhurtham ceremony. She discovered that her suitcase and bags containing around 200 grams of gold ornaments and ₹3 lakh in cash were missing. Notably, the room’s door lock appeared undisturbed, suggesting the possibility of a planned and discreet theft.
The complainant, L. Shiva Shankar, a resident of Gavipura Badavane and father of the bride, had booked the hall for his daughter’s wedding. The reception took place on Thursday evening, followed by the wedding ceremony on Friday.
“There were no CCTV cameras installed in the corridor leading to the bride’s room, which has complicated the investigation. However, we are currently analyzing other available CCTV footage from the premises to identify potential suspects,” a police official stated.
A formal case of theft has been registered, and investigations are ongoing. No arrests have been made so far.
This incident raises serious concerns about the security arrangements at wedding venues and the responsibilities of wedding hall operators, especially when valuables are involved.
